South-South Cooperation in focus: Chinese Vice President: Sino-Latin American Cooperation Shows Promising Future

Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping says cooperation between China and Latin America has a promising future and both sides will step up further cooperation.

Xi Jinping made the statements during his visit to Brazil.

"As the world's largest developing country, China will step-up all-round and mutually beneficial cooperation with Latin America, the most important developing region, to a higher level. Sino-Latin American cooperation has a promising future."

Xi Jinping notes that his Latin America tour has been fruitful.

"During these Latin America visits, I've held talks with some leaders on how to enhance our cooperation and bilateral relations under a new international situation. We have also attended various signing ceremonies on a range of cooperation projects."

During his visit to Brazil, Xi Jinping met with Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Foreign Minister Celso Amorim about deepening strategic partnerships.

South-South Cooperation in Focus -- Brazilian president seeks stronger trade ties during his first trip to Vietnam

Brazilian Present Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is in Hanoi, Vietnam meeting with Vietnam's leader, Nguyen Minh Triet to discuss increasing trade ties between the two nations. Vietnam's state media released a statement saying quite comically "it hoped to benefit from Brazil's foodtball skills."

"Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation with Brazil in all areas, particularly the economy, trade and investment, oil and gas, seafood processing, education, health and fighting poverty," Triet said.

Trade between Brazil and Vietnam rose to US$323 million last year from US$43 million five years earlier, said Silva, who is traveling with a delegation of business leaders.

Lula will be moving on in the coming days to East Timor and Indonesia to discuss increasing trade and bilateral connections with them as well. These developments indicate Brazil is expanding its horizons beyond China and India, the regions big players and now seeking to shore up support and new markets in South-East Asia.
